Privacy policy
Effective October 28, 2026
Finance (“the app”, available at rispace.github.io/my-finance) is a free, open-source personal finance app made by Mohammad Rafiqul Islam (“I”, “me”). This policy explains what data the app handles and where it goes. The short version: your financial data never reaches me or any server I run. There is no such server.
1. What the app stores, and where
- On your device. Everything you enter — transactions, earnings, budgets, categories, payment methods, credit cards, loans, assets, investment holdings and app settings — is stored in your browser’s private storage (IndexedDB) on that device.
- In your Google Drive, only if you sign in. If you choose “Sign in with Google”, the app saves a copy of that same data as one file in the hidden application data folder of your own Google Drive, so your devices can stay in sync. That file lives in your Google account and counts toward your Drive storage.
The app’s code is served as static files by GitHub Pages. There is no database, analytics, advertising, tracking pixel, or cookie set by the app.
2. Google user data
When you sign in with Google, the app requests a single permission (OAuth scope):
https://www.googleapis.com/auth/drive.appdata— “See, create, and delete its own configuration data in your Google Drive.”
With it, the app can only read and write the files it created in its hidden application data folder. It cannot see, open, list, change or delete any of your other Drive files, your Gmail, contacts, calendar or anything else in your Google account.
To show which account you’re syncing with, the app also reads your Google account’s email address and display name from the Drive “about” endpoint and keeps it only on your device.
How Google user data is used: solely to save and load your own finance data so it syncs between your devices. It is not sold, not shared with anyone, not used for advertising, not used to train AI or machine-learning models, and not read by any person. All communication happens directly between your browser and Google over an encrypted (HTTPS) connection; it does not pass through any server of mine.
Finance’s use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
Google sign-in gives the app a temporary access token (valid about one hour). It is stored only on your device and is never sent anywhere except to Google’s own servers.
3. Other services the app talks to
- Finnhub (optional). If you add your own Finnhub API key to get live stock prices, your browser sends the ticker symbols you hold (for example “AAPL”) and your key directly to Finnhub. No amounts, share counts or other personal data are sent. Your key is stored with your data (on your device and in your Drive file).
- GitHub Pages. Like any website host, GitHub may log technical information such as your IP address when your browser downloads the app’s files. See the GitHub Privacy Statement.
4. Your control over your data
- Export: Settings → Full backup (JSON), or CSV exports of transactions, earnings and card activity.
- Delete from a device: Settings → Erase this device.
- Delete from Google Drive: in Google Drive on the web, open Settings → Manage apps → Finance → Options → Delete hidden app data.
- Revoke access: remove Finance at myaccount.google.com/permissions, or use Settings → Sign out in the app.
Because I never receive your data, I cannot view, recover or delete it for you — please keep a backup.
5. Security
Data is transferred only over HTTPS. Data on your device is protected by your device and browser; data in Drive is protected by your Google account, so use a strong password and two-step verification. The full source code is public at github.com/rispace/my-finance for anyone to inspect.
6. Children
The app is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect information from them.
7. Changes
If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted on this page with a new effective date. Significant changes will also be noted in the app’s release notes on GitHub.
